Soccer: Val Margerum comeback from knee surgery has solid frehman season at Oregon State

Val Margerum

In May of this year defender Val Margerum came to Gamespeed for our help. She was just off of knee surgery and needed to get ready for her freshman season at Oregon State.  Team captain of Campolindo High and Lamorinda United 94 she was an accomplished athlete. Now moving up to PAC 12 competition meant another level. She embarked on a specially devised 7 week program by Aaron Thigpen to regain the strength and integrity in her knee but also take her speed, movement and durability to the level of a college player.  The result for her freshman season,  she’s played in 13 matches, taking three shots, one of which was on goal … Logged 315 minutes of play on the pitch. The Beavers finished  11-6-3.  Not a bad start Val.

GS: Athlete Updates- Ryan Neil commits to CPSLO & Merritt Men’s basketball ready

Congratulations to Ryan Neil. Formerly of Monte Vista High 2011 and DVC 2012 he has committed to play for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He has great size and moves well for a big guy. He honed those skills while working with Aaron and Mike at Gamespeed. His mom wrote us recently to give us the good news:
Hi Aaron,
Happy Holidays!  I just wanted to let you know (I don’t think we have before) that Ryan is leaving in two weeks to start college at Cal Poly, and will be playing football there.  He was also offered a spot at another Northern California university, and owes a huge thank you to you and Mike.   THANK YOU! Football: Dublin’s Spencer Hollie commits to SMU

Congrats to Spencer Hollie  strong side DE for Dublin High. He recently committed to Southern Methodist University. He will follow in the footsteps of his father former NFL lineman Doug Hollie. Spencer’s a sharp kid with the size and strength to do well at the next level.  Training off and on at Gamespeed for the past two years he’s been focusing on speed and footwork. Ok Spence now the hard part begins lets get to work. College Ready!

New SMU Commit Spencer Hollie Talks

During his weekend visit to SMU picked up a commitment from Dublin (CA) 2013 defensive end Spencer Hollie. Hollie was very excited when he was offered and committed on the spot to SMU.

“I was offered right after SMU did their walkthrough on Saturday,” said Hollie. “After walkthrough coach Hill and coach Jones took me into their office and offered me and I committed to SMU on the spot.”

Hollie committed to SMU this past weekend while on campus.

Cross Country Annie Geasa drops 26 secs. All EBAL Second Team

Congrats to Annie (Foothill High) on her recent personal best by dropping a whopping 26 seconds off her time. She was also selected to the EBAL second team.  Yep even distance runners need speed.  Annie is one of many of Gamespeed’s  middle distance runners who for the past two years has done the right speed, explosiveness and strength training to compliment her distance events. She is having an outstanding senior season and we look forward to her exploits on the track. Good look at NCS this weekend.

Football: Gamespeed Alum Mike Carbone Highlighted in his final Collegiate Game

Mike Carbone (Freedom High – Los Medanos CC) is finishing his senior season at Montana State University Northern.  He has been a key player for the Lights and has been on fire lately. Great everyday story of a student athlete who kept working on himself and moved up from high school to junior college then onto the collegiate ranks to play football.  NFL  who knows, I think he’s got the speed, size and athleticism but he’ll graduate with a degree in Business so mission accomplished.   Nice story about him in the Harve Daily News:

Mastering the sack
Senior Day was special for all nine Northern stars playing in their final game at home. But many also made a huge impact on the game itself. Congrats to Brandon Crawford, second GS athlete to win a World Series Chanmpionship!

Big Shout out to Gamespeed’s own Brandon Crawford. The twenty- five year old shortstop sensation made stellar defensive plays to help the Giants to a World Series win over Detroit.  A GS athlete since the age of thirteen and just recently graced our doors this summer. The type of champion we like to see low key, humble, but fiercely motivated.  Great job, a great year and to top it off the real win will be the upcoming birth of your baby girl. Enjoy!

 

Brandon is actually the second athlete in GS history to play in the World Series. The first was Antioch native Aaron Miles who played in the 2006 series at second base for the Championship Cardinals.

Gamespeed’s Andre Ward defends title in Spectacular Fashion!

In a prime time  HBO telecast, Gamespeed trained Andre Ward defended his WBA/WBC Super Middleweight World Champion title. I was there ring side just six rows from the ring (courtesy of Andre). This was a turning point fight demonstrating that he is a marquee fighter who possess the talent, skills, and entertainment factor to be a prime time draw. The fight accomplished all of that and more. Andre showed exceptional speed and power with a jab that Dawson couldn’t evade and two crushing blows that sent him to the canvas twice during the fight.  Two key facets of his fight game that he and trainer Aaron Thigpen have been developing in conditioning workouts since last year prior to his Super Six win over Carl Froch. I also like the fact that his conditioning looked exceptional during the 10th round he notched a TKO but he had the stamina to go well beyond, his legs looked strong, feet light, and posture solid. It was beautiful to see the work we’ve done together live. Congrats Dre’ were proud of you.

Gamespeed’s Andre Ward upcoming title fight.

Come support the pride of Oakland and Gamespeed’s own Andre Ward. He will defend his title against Chad Dawson September 8th at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. It will also air on HBO. Andre’s been training privately with GS owner Aaron Thigpen for over a year in which we’ve seen him win the Super 7 Championship. Watch this athlete bring his tenacious  and determined work ethic into the ring.

On September 8 live on HBO from the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., Andre Ward will defend his super middleweight crown against current top light heavyweight Chad Dawson, in a meeting of top American fighters. Ward discusses the matchup and what he expects from Dawson below.
