“Baby its a “G” thing”. (Snoop-Dog)

GS athletes Cheyenne Cordes of Rodriguez and Robert Stephenson of Alhambra take both the Softball and Baseball sports categories. Stephenson was awarded the honor last week now we are alerted to Cheyennes award. Both move on to the National award process. Ive got my fingers crossed.

Here’s a excert from the Gatorade site:

The 5-foot-4 senior shortstop led the Mustangs (28-3) to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championship this past season. Cordes batted .652 with 12 home runs, 18 doubles, 64 runs scored, 66 RBI and 32 stolen bases, committing just one error in the field. A member of the 2010-11 USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team that won a gold medal at the 18-Under Pan American Championship in Colombia in August, 2010, she also led the Lady Magic to first place at the ASA/USA Girls’ 16-and-under Class-A Fastpitch National Championship in 2008.

Cordes has maintained an unweighted 3.63 GPA in the classroom. She has volunteered locally as part of a fundraising campaign to benefit breast cancer research and as a youth softball coach.

“Cheyenne’s hitting makes her shine, but when you look at her position, she is a communicator, she’s a leader, she takes control,” said Joe Henderson, Cordes’ coach with the Lady Magic. “She is someone who is outspoken. Teams build off that synergy that she drives, that’s what makes her so special.” (read more) at:
