Nice to see all of these young ladies (in bold) playing hard and doing well. They were part of a contingency from the Vacaville area who came to Gamespeed in their high school and college careers. The Daily Republic of Farifield posted an update on the ladies.

Cheyenne Cordes had stretches where she simply sizzled at the plate for Rodriguez High en route to being named Gatorade State Softball Player of the Year.

The starting shortstop and leadoff hitter for the University of California enjoyed one such stretch over the last two weeks, batting a torrid .636 (14 for 22), including going 4 for 4 twice, with two doubles, four home runs, 10 runs scored and 13 RBIs in that span. One of her homers was a grand slam in an 11-1 pounding of Princeton.

Not surprisingly, Cal (19-11, 3-1 Pac-12) won all seven games. Cordes leads the team with a .459 average, nine doubles, seven home runs, 27 RBIs and 30 runs scored and has a .798 slugging percentage and .518 on-base percentage.

Jordan Wallace (Fairfield) batted .333 (2 for 6) over the last two weeks for the Golden Bears.

One of Cal’s wins was a 13-3 bouncing of Oregon State, during which Kiara “Ya” Garcia went 2 for 4 and scored two runs. The Beavers (11-18, 2-5 Pac-12) were also swept in a three-game series by Arizona with Garcia going 0 for 8.

The last two weeks were tough for Andriana Collins (Rodriguez) of UC Santa Barbara (21-12, 1-2 Big West). In losses to San Diego, UCLA and Cal State Fullerton she gave up 22 hits and 15 runs over nine innings. She also had a no-decision against San Jose State.

Marissa Escalante (Rodriguez) made her mark as a pinch-hitter for UC Riverside (19-17, 0-3 Big West), going 3 for 5, including a two-run homer in a 9-7 win over Loyola Marymount.

The Highlanders went 4-5 in that span with one of the setbacks a 6-2 loss to Calesha Shelley (Armijo) and Bethune-Cookman (12-22, 2-0 MEAC). Shelly was 1 for 5 with a run scored and stolen base in that game and went 6 for 29 with three runs scored, one coming in a 1-0 blanking of North Carolina Central, overall.

Alexis Konstantinopoulos (Armijo) made an appearance as a pinch-runner for Saint Mary’s (12-17) in an 8-0 win over North Dakota.

Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville) got into four games for Rutgers (13-10, 1-2 AAC), getting a win in relief and another as a starter with two no-decisions. Overall she pitched 17 innings, giving up 20 hits and 13 runs, 10 earned, striking out nine and walking three.
