Press Release: June 2014

Oakland, CA – Nkosi Djehuti-Mes a power-hitting outfielder from Oakland, California signed a national letter of intent this evening. Nkosi has accepted an NCAA Division 1 baseball scholarship and committed to attending Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana this fall. Coach Cador says, “Nkosi is one of the most advanced high school hitters to come along in a while. We are very happy that he will be playing for Southern. BIG HURT fit quite nicely into our game plan.” Nkosi’s strong work ethic, athleticism and natural power will serve him well on the baseball diamond in college and beyond. Nkosi’s focus on his education will allow him to continue to achieve academically and, after his playing career is over, allow him to pursue his goal of becoming a sports medicine doctor.

Quotes from Baseball Insiders & Coaches Michael Williams, former major league scout who scouted at all levels of major league baseball and a key member of the front office for several MLB teams, states “Nkosi has the best power bat potential that I have ever seen in my career as a scout. This kid is the truth. Nkosi has two special tools: unbelievable power and special make-up. His work is ethic second to none.

Nate Trosky, Trosky Baseball, states “Nkosi Djehuti-Mes, a scholar athlete and fine young man has major league potential. The sky is the limit for “Big Hurt Junior” (reminds me of the great Frank Thomas) not only because of his talent but because of his desire and commitment to excellence. Nkosi’s collar is blue, octane is high, and his light is green! We believe in him!”
