Congratulations to James. he was called up last week to play the Mets. He had a rough outing but will make the adjustment. As of today he has played in 5 major league games and is hitting .167. He had a good outing against the Reds on the 14th going 2 for 3 with 2 rbi’s.

James is the second GS athlete this year to be called up. Brandon Crawford was called up a couple months ago. His first mlb at bat was a grand slam. We wish both of them the congrats and the best of luck.

Rough debut for Darnell

by Mike McCombs

A day after losing his luggage on the way to New York to join the San Diego Padres, James Darnell went 0-for-4 in his major league debut.

The former South Carolina Gamecocks slugger lost his luggage Monday somewhere between Tucson, Ariz., and CitiField in Queens.

Then on Tuesday, Darnell struck out twice and grounded into a double play while going 0-for-4 in a 5-4 loss to the New York Mets.

I think it’s safe to say, long term, Darnell will experience more good days in the majors than bad.

The third baseman, who will see extended playing time with Chase Headley out at least a month with a broken finger, has hit .317 with 23 home runs and 75 RBIs between the Double-A San Antonio Missions and the Triple-A Tucson Sidewinders this season. He also appeared in the Futures Game in Phoenix.
