SEATTLE, Wash. – Sophomore Ya Garcia and outfielder Ashley Sanchez combined for eight hits in the No. 24 Oregon State softball team’s doubleheader at No. 17 Washington as the Beavers fell, 14-2 and 8-6, on a soggy Saturday in Seattle.

Game one had over 2 ½ hours of combined rain delays while the start of game two was also briefly delayed by the pesky precipitation. When game two did begin, the Beavers hopped on the board first by loading the bases with nobody out thanks to a single by Sanchez sandwiched around walks to sophomore Dani Gilmore and senior Elizabeth Santana. Gilmore would score later in the inning on a grounder by Lea Cavestany to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. Oregon State (24-13) would load the bases in each of the first three innings, and OSU extended its lead in its half of the third. Garcia drove in the Beavers’ second run of the game with an RBI single to left to score Cavestany. Sanchez later brought home Garcia and catcher Ally Kutz with a two-run single to make it 4-0. Washington (30-10) scored the next eight runs of the game in its next three at-bats, but the Beavers responded with two in the top of the sixth to slice into the deficit. Already 3-for-3, Sanchez was denied the chance to become the fourth Beaver to record four hits in a game when she was hit by a pitch. It did put her on base, however, as she raced around to score on a Cavestany double three hitters later. Freshman Natalie Hampton then brought in Santana, who had singled earlier in the frame, with a groundout to first. The Beavers couldn’t generate a rally in the seventh, though, and lost 8-6.

The two teams combined for 13 walks and 20 runners left on base in game two.Garcia had two more hits in game one, including a scorching RBI double to center that scored the Beavers’ first run of the contest. Garcia would score later in the inning on Sanchez’s infield single.
