Granada Wins Alhambra Classic
Miles Mastrobuoni drove in three runs and Anthony Olmo spun a gem on the mound as the Granada High baseball team beat El Cerrito 4-0 to win the Alhambra Easter Classic championship in Martinez.
Olmo looked good from the start, mixing a sharp curve ball with an ability to spot his fastball. That spelled trouble for El Cerrito (10-4-1), which struggled to get base runners, let alone hits.
Though El Cerrito starter Shea Harrison was nearly Olmo’s equal, he couldn’t solve Mastrobuoni and that proved the difference offensively for Granada (8-6).
Mastrobuoni’s first clutch hit came in the second inning, when he sent a 1-2 pitch from Harrison back up the middle to plate Matt Richards and Dan Whitney.
That clutch hitting came into play again in the fourth, when Mastrobuoni punched a two-out single between the shortstop and third baseman, scoring Richards to make it 3-0.
From there, Olmo was in control. He struck out eight, and allowed just five base runners in throwing a complete game.
Charlie Caccamo collected El Cerrito’s lone hit, a single in the third inning. Harrison pitched 62/3 innings, allowing six hits and striking out three.
