Dixon performs well at USA National Team Development Training

michael dixon usa 15u

Congratulations to Michael Dixon and his performance at the National Team development training last week. Michael went 5 for 11 and dropped his sixty yard dash time from 7.2 to 7.0. Not bad for just a few weeks training at Gamespeed.

The week-long 2015 National Team Development Program was held at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., from Aug. 12 to 17 for the 14U age level.

The National Team Development Program offers identified athletes with an opportunity to connect with USA Baseball staff to better prepare for a future national team experience. The program includes skill development sessions, off-field education seminars and intrasquad Stars vs. Stripes games to help develop the athletes as both a player and a person.

Showtimes “All Access” pre -fight show follows both fighters around chronicling the lives of the fighters as they prepare for their upcoming bout. One team follows camp “Mayweather” and the other camp “Berto”. Well part of Berto’s training is done by Gamespeed owner Aaron Thigpen. The crew has been by our facility at the Challenge Grounds and last week followed us to our outdoor training at Fallon Park. They film all the activity  and interview the athletes and trainers. The last time Gamespeed got some Showtime airplay was the All Access fight prep for Andre Ward  who won the Super Six Championship bout in 2011.

The first episode of the Mayweather  versus Berto fight will air August 28th.

Physicality Training: The Titan Program Ages 12 -14

Time to get physical.

I’ll be frank, one of the most common issues I am increasingly observing in the areas athletes is a lack of “physicality”. I recently heard an area scout for MLB say “Bay Area athletes have a high baseball IQ but are lacking physically”……”They easily rank behind athletes from Southern cal, Texas, Florida and parts of the East coast.”

Over the past twenty one years Ive been in this business I cant say he’s entirely off the mark. Our kids are skilled but there’s something missing physically. Rest assured if their behind at age 12 or 13 they are likely to be behind at 17 and 18 years of age.

Here’s how I define “Physicality“:

“An athlete who exudes a physical presence in their posture, movements, attitude or approach to athletic activity and competition.”

The top 5 Reasons for this growing problem:

  1. Athletes are “too” technically tuned (Robotic) to where their movements are locked into narrow movement patterns only designed for their sport or position.
  2. Underdeveloped physical size in primary muscle groups (shoulders, glutes, calves, biceps). Due to an absence of  proper physical training or a lack of overall physical activity.
  3. Lack of gross […]

Robert Stephenson Reds Triple AAA

Training: Gamespeed’s  Off Season Pitching Conditioning since 2009.

Reds top pitching prospect fans 10 over eight scoreless innings

Watching his teammates get promoted to the big leagues, Robert Stephenson can’t help but think about his own callup. And with his latest gem, he brought that call one step closer.

The Reds’ second-ranked prospect tossed eight three-hit innings and struck out 10 on Tuesday night, pitching Triple-A Louisville to a 3-1 victory over Charlotte at Louisville Slugger Field.

“You see guys go up every other day from here. I think I’ve seen four or five different guys go up to the big leagues and it puts it in perspective that you’re so close to there. So it’s in the back of your mind and it just keeps driving you forward,” he said. “It’s so close and it’s right in front of you that if you work hard enough, you can get there.

“I think very soon I will be [ready to get there].”

Stephenson’s hard work was apparent early as he worked in and out of trouble. Charlotte had a runner on second with one out in each of the first three […]

Gamespeed’s Stephenson twirls six scoreless frames

Stephenson AAA 2015

Robert Stephenson: Baseball MLB Pitcher, Triple AAA

Gamespeed Training: Off Season Conditionng, Custom Training since 2009.

Still on the rise, Gamespeed’s Stephenson is getting control issues under  “well control”. Says  he’s feeling physically fit and excited about the direction he’s going.

Louisville right-hander overcomes hitters’ counts, walks just one

For a while there, it seemed like right-hander Robert Stephenson’s season was slipping away. Now he’s in Triple-A and seems to have a firmer — if not quite complete — grip on things.

The Reds’ top prospect shined in his second International League start Wednesday, tossing six scoreless innings for Louisville in a 3-2 win over Indianapolis.

The right-hander scattered four hits while striking out six and walking one. Over two starts with the Bats, he’s 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA.

Stephenson was promoted to Triple-A after making 14 starts for Double-A Pensacola this year. The first part of the season featured a few disastrous outings for the 22-year-old, including a two-start stretch in which he walked 11 batters over seven innings.

The 2011 first-round pick (27th overall) had a particularly tough time gripping his fastball early in the year, leading to control issues. He worked […]

Andre Ward victorious over Paul Smith

Andre got it doe agian. After a 19 month lay off he came back to the ring to demolish another opponent. With Smiths crew throwing in the towel in the ninth round. As with his previous four fights he did conditioning training with coach Aaron Thigpen of Gamespeed. Here are a few personal pics I took at ring side.

Welcome back, Andre “S.O.G” Ward (28-0, 15 KO). After a 19-month layoff, the WBA super middleweight champion returned to the ring with a dominant ninth-round TKO over Paul Smith (35-6) on Saturday night in Oakland, California. It wasn’t a title defense, but Ward looked like a champion against a clearly inferior opponent.

…Ward pounded on Smith with combinations from multiple angles. Smith’s face broke up under Ward’s shots, and his corner mercifully threw in the towel to save their fighter from unnecessary punishment.

….S.O.G had quite the cheering section. TheScore NBA has Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors carrying one of Ward’s belts in the ring:

…..Smith looked like a handpicked opponent, but he gave a valiant effort to make the fight with Ward semi-competitive. He landed a […]

Gregg P. wins MLB: Pitch Hit Run Competition.

gregg pitch hit run 2015

Congratulations to Gamespeed’s Gregg P. Gregg won the Pitch Hit Run Competition held at Giants stadium.  He was behind the leader until the final event, the base dash.  In true Gamespeed fashion he blew the competition away and won the whole event!

It reminded me of another Gamespeed youth Callan Bard who won the NFL Punt Pass Kick Sectionals back in 2011.

Football: Callan Bard wins NFL Punt Pass Kick Sectionals

Congratulations to Callan Bard  (Napa) who won the NFL Pepsi, Punt, Pass & Kick Sectionals in Daly City last Saturday and will perform at the beginning of the 49er game next Sunday Dec 4th. This serious gridster is an athlete. He makes the drive on Sundays the day after pop-warner games for private sessions. When most kids are taking the day off playing video games he enjoys working on his receiving skills and speed.  Good luck Cal.
