Football: Ray Hudson knows he can get the job done

I love this story about Ray Hudson. The confidence he displays in his ability  is what we like to see in our athletes. Ray spent his off season working with us on his speed and agility, footwork and catching skills and participating in our Saturday Football class led by coach Mike. With all the work he got done I’m not surprised by his answer.

Congrats also go out to his quarterback another GS athlete, Tommy Paulson  a first year varsity QB who will be a force coming next year.

Facing a fourth and goal and trailing by six points with just over a minute to go, Foothill High football coach Matt Sweeney was going to call a fade to the corner of the end zone for junior wide receiver Ray Hudson.

Sweeney then asked his best receiver if he could beat his guy, and Hudson told his coach he could. Then he did, scrapping the fade and catching a ball on a stop pattern just inside the goal line, giving the host Falcons a 14-13 come-from-behind East Bay […]

Football: Late touchdown by GS tandem downs Acalanes

The GS tandem of Ed Achzinger and Jeff Leung scored a late touchdown to beat league rival Acalanes. These two happen to be teammates on the track teams record setting 400m relay. Cant wait to get these guys back on the track.

DFAL football roundup: Dublin High scores late touchdown to thwart Acalanes rally

A 28-yard touchdown pass from Edward Achziger to Jeff Leung on fourth down with less than a minute remaining Friday proved to be the difference-maker as host Dublin High held off a second-half rally to beat Acalanes 32-29.

Dublin (5-2, 2-2 Diablo Foothill Athletic League) looked in complete control at halftime, getting scores on its first four possessions to build an 18-point advantage at intermission.

But that cushion disappeared with a 4-yard touchdown rush from Craig Anderson that capped a run of 22 unanswered points, giving Acalanes (4-5, 2-3) a 29-25 lead with four minutes remaining.

The Dons’ only lead of the game wouldn’t last long, however, as Achziger orchestrated the ensuing possession into the game-winning drive behind an impressive combination of passing and running.

Achziger would account for […]

Football: Monte Vista’s Ryan Neil inspirational story.

What a great story about perserverence and believing in ones self. Ryan has been with GS for seven months working on catching up and has blossomed beautifully. He definitly left no stone unturned working tirelessly on his speed, agility , changing his physique, following proper nutrition and working with a linemen skills coach. He had some great camps this summer and I’m sure will get a DI offer. If given the chance we could be watching this kid in the NFL . Great job Ryan!

The best offensive linemen are always pushing forward. Ryan Neil, an 18-year-old senior guard at Monte Vista High, knows that better than anybody.

He kept pushing forward through a two-year period of his life that very nearly undercut his dream in a sport he so dearly loves.

Growing up, Neil was one of the best multisport athletes in the Danville area, but because of his size, his specialty was football. Now at 6-foot-6 and a well-tapered 280 […]

Alan Jaeger Long Toss Camp & Arm Care clinic comes to Bay Area

Just got an email from Alan Jaeger. He’s coming to the Bay Area soon. He is the guy who has put Long Toss on the map but his program is much more. Its about mental preparation, performance and arm health going hand in hand. It is a way for athletes to empower themselves  about one of the most important aspects of their game “throwing”. In my opinion if your not doing long toss you may be one throw away from an injury. Take the time to go to his clinic.

Softball: Freshman Kiara Garcia making presence known for OSU Beavers

A freshman shortstop at Oregon State Kiara Garcia hit the game winning RBi in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the Beavers win in pre-season action. Kiara has been a Gamespeed athlete since the age of twelve where she has worked on speed and agility to enhance her fielding skills. Just this past January she was in our Athletic Infiiedler class honing those skills which made her a Oregon State five star recruit.

Baseball: Craig Massoni Drops Half second off 60 yd dash time!

Craig Massoni first baseman for the Chabot College baseball team put in an intense summer of training at Gamespeed working on every facet of his game. He had a structured  four day a week workout regiment.  The first display of his effort cam in the form of a “HALF SECOND” drop in his 60 yard dash time. He went from 7.2 to 6.75!!! He emailed me the news:

“Hey Aaron. I just wanted to let you know I ran my first 60 since our workouts this summer. I ran a 6.75. I just wanted to let you know and thank you and Mike for all your help. Can’t wait to get back in and workout ASAP.”

Thanks Craig Massoni

Great job Craig its only the beginning of what will be a breakout season.

Track: Early Season Testing

Well its about that time. Time to get started on your off season training. Most who know me understand I’m not a big tester.  But for those of you who want hard numbers on how to evaluate where you are,  you can perform some fairly good tests to see at what point you are in your development.

Listed below are some tests you can perform to give you a better picture of your development. Periodic testing can be informative but it is not the last word. Some people are great testers but can’t perform on the track. I’ve listed some general parameters found in developmental and elite level athletes. Use these as a guide to shoot for but don’t use them as a pass/fail mechanism. Compare your improvement with yourself.

 Acceleration

  • Assume three point or track stance, when ready sprint to desired mark, the timer starts on the first movement (generally the hand). Record 2-3 trials.
  • 10,20, or 30yd Fly: This entails marking the appropriate distance and have the athlete approach at full speed and run through the distance 10,20 or 30m at full speed. Time the distance for a maximum speed score. Perform three trials and record the best score. Parameters for 20m […]

“I’ve worked with Jair for about twenty years now. We’ve  traveled internationally to work with coaches and athletes. Jairs strengths are that he has a great teaching touch with athletes and a way of communicating techniques easily. I’m no socccer coach but I like how he doesn’t restrict the athlete and make them robots but helps the athlete develop their own rhythm and flow to execute movements which results in a more athletic and capable player.”
