Mitch Kranson: Rivals.com article

Another great article on Mitch. Nice mention on Gamespeed too. Nice lookin out Mitch! Four years and counting. With Krnason and a whole host of other GS athletes on the bears campus in baseball, track, football  and softball I hope they get the Caldecott finished soon for my commute.

Bears net third commitment of 2012 class

BERKELEY — The California baseball team netted its third commitment of the 2012 class early Monday evening, when one of the best hitters in northern California walked into head coach David Esquer’s office and exclaimed proudly: “I want to be a Golden Bear.” Following a tour led by hitting coach Tony Arnerich, Mitchell Kranson

joined his summer teammate and longtime friend Max Dutto as two of the first three members of the 2012 recruiting class for the Bears, with the third being Lafayette (Calif.) Acalanes outfielder Grant Diede, who pulled the trigger on August 4.

“I kind of had an idea the whole day that I was going to make this decision, and it was just, I felt like I really connected with coach Arnerich today,” Kranson said. “Today was actually the first day where I actually […]

Baseball: Mitchell Krnason Commits to CAl

One of the hardest working young men in baseball that I know is Mitchell Kranson. A somewhat quiet and humble young man lets his bat do the talking. And Oh yeah! It speaks often and loudly. So much so CAL and many others came knocking. A GS athlete for four years and counting he is in the mold of some of the areas great hitters like De La Salle alum Chris Carter and San Ramon’s James Darnell both major leaguers. I’m glad I’ll have the opportunity to continue to work with and watch this exceptional young man in his collegiate career.  He joins other GS athletes Max Dutto and Grant Diede as incoming freshmen next year.  They will join GS alum Darrell Matthews who is a sophomore.

De La Salle infielder Mitchell Kranson is among the best hitters, if not the best, in the class of 2012. He helped lead the Spartans to the NCS Division I finals as a junior and after playing against top competition throughout the summer, he ended his recruitment on Monday night by staying home in the Pac-12. The 5-foot-10, 190 pound Kranson verbally committed to the Cal coaching staff on Monday night […]

Participants in our 2010-11 program saw amazing results. We had numerous high school athletes ranging in events from 100m to 800m, Hurdles and Pole vault. They trained both as a group and on their own with independent programs. Of the 26 athletes who participated many qualified for NCS, won Conference titles and most except for two had personal bests.

Oakland teen playing for Team USA

By Steve R. Waterhouse

This has been quite the busy summer for Oakland resident Nkosi Djehuti-Mes.

The 14-year-old has played on five different baseball teams — the most notable is representing the USA on a 14-under team in the Latin American Baseball Classic held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic Aug. 4-10.

Djehuti-Mes, a right-handed outfielder, earned one of the 13 spots when he beat out hundreds of players from across the country to make the team.

“When I found out I made […]

Swimming: Celina Li Jr National Champion in the 400IM

Celina is a sophomore at Foothill high school. She competes at the national and international level. She is also a two time conference champion in the 400IM.

At GS she keeps a well managed and structured “dryland program” designed at enhancing her swimming. She continues to reap the rewards of that hard work.

Nice update from her mom she wrote:

She won and performed the best time the 400m IM at Jr. Nationals.  On the first day of the meet she competed in the 200m fly.  It was a brutally tight race and she tied for 3rd place.  But From First to 3rd place, all 4 swimmers were neck to neck all the way ending up very closed finish. 2:11.77 was a very good time.

Keep up the good work Celina.

James Darnell makes major league debut for Padres.

Congratulations to James. he was called up last week to play the Mets. He had a rough outing but will make the adjustment. As of today he has played in 5 major league games and is hitting .167. He had a good outing against the Reds on the 14th going 2 for 3 with 2 rbi’s.

James is the second GS athlete this year to be called up. Brandon Crawford was called up a couple months ago. His first mlb at bat was a grand slam. We wish both of them the congrats and the best of luck.

Rough debut for Darnell

by Mike McCombs

A day after losing his luggage on the way to New York to join the San Diego Padres, James Darnell went 0-for-4 in his major league debut.

The former South Carolina Gamecocks slugger lost his luggage Monday somewhere between Tucson, Ariz., and CitiField in Queens.

Then on Tuesday, Darnell struck out twice and grounded into a double play while going 0-for-4 in a 5-4 loss to the New York Mets.

I think it’s safe to say, long term, Darnell will experience more good days in the majors than bad.

The third baseman, who will see extended playing time with Chase Headley out at […]

The Gamespeed Bridge Program for the NORCAL Velocity Improvement Program

The Gamespeed Bridge Program for the NORCAL Velocity Improvement Program
This past season we saw the success of one of our most notable graduates. Robert Stepehnson went from 83mph to upwards of 99mph. He was one of only two athletes to take advantage of both the Gamespeed Off Season Pitchers Conditioning and NORCAL’s VIP programs. The other was Brigham Young University bound Monte Vista pitcher Cameron Keysor who topped 91-92mph.
These athletes had a solid conditioning base specifically designed to drastically reduce the risk of injury and maximize the benefits of the VIP program. The bridge program will develop the range of motion, flexibility, stamina and coordination to prepare an athlete for the rigors of the VIP program.

The program is 4 weeks. Twice a week attendance is mandatory.
