Two Gamespeed athletes are nominees for California Gatorade Player of the Year

Softball standout Cheyenne Cordes of Rodriguez  high school in Fairfield was honored with the nomination. The CAL bound senior plays shortstop and has competed internationally on the USA Jr national team. A long time GS athlete since the age of twelve she is very deserving of the honor and I wish her the best.

Robert Stephenson, the much heralded pitcher from Alhambra High is one of the nations top prospects. With a fastball that has hit 97mph he is on every major league teams watch list. Over the past two years I’ve dubbed him “Mr Perfect Attendance” for his dedication  and rarely ever missing a workout.  Robert is in the mold of a former Gamespeed athlete and Gatorade Player of the year back in 2002, Chris Gruler  of Liberty High (Brentwood) who was a 2nd overall pick in that years draft.

The Gatorade State Player of the Year award winners are evaluated and selected on the basis of three criteria:

Athletic Achievement — success made at the club, national or international levels of competition, and standout performances in their respective sport. Includes statistical production, honors, skill-set evaluation, leadership ability, overall impact on team success and historical context of accomplishments.

Academic Excellence — review of […]

Swimming: Celina Li wins not one but two NCS events. Captures Athlete of the Week Honors.

The Foothill sophomore won both the NCS Tri Valley 200IM and 100 Fly. Her times also qualified her for the Summer Nationals competition. Celinia then competed the next day in the Sunday Senior Walk-on meet where she posted a  personal best time and Summer nationals qualifying mark in the 200m Breast and 400 IM and she also re-certified her summer junior time in 100 breast. The Valley of the Sun named her the  Athlete of the week.

Celinia will now regroup, beef up her dry-land training at Gamespeed and prepare for the Summer Junior Nationals.

Gamespeed had an off season program for track athletes that went from October of last year until mid February of this year. We had numerous high school athletes ranging in events from 100m to 800m. I am very proud of the results. Only six are seniors. 2012 is looking good!

Track: Dublin boys team makes history

Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Track team at Dublin high. It was three years ago when coach Williams took over the program and asked me to be the sprint coach. He had a vision to turn a floundering program around and make it a track power in the area. It was a challenge I wanted to be a part of.  Last week the program has made its most significant step towards that goal. Well done athletes and coach Williams the driving force behind the program.

Contra Costa Times:

The Dublin boys team won the first outright league varsity track and field title in the school’s history, according to coach Chris Williams.

The Gaels scored 97 points to edge Campolindo by four points for the DFAL championship boys team title. Dublin also finished the DFAL regular season undefeated.

Dublin racked up several points in the jumps, sprints and hurdles at the DFAL championships. The Gaels’ Keremiah Crockett won both the triple jump (43-53/4) and the long jump (21-63/4), and teammates Jordan Davis and Jabari Davis also finished third and fourth in the triple jump. Jordan Davis was also sixth in the long jump and third […]

Football: Speedy tailback Ryan Toney signs with Benedictine College

Congrats to Ryan Toney of Valley Christian (Dublin).  He has signed his letter of intent to play for St Benedictine College in Kansas. One of the areas top running backs who was among the leaders in many rushing categories including the areas top yards per carry back. A  4.3 40yd speed demon he played on both sides of the ball in the constantly improving Valley Christian program. His time at Gamespeed has been well spent. He even garners great praise from former NFL star Rod Woodson who stated: “Ryan has all the tools to succeed at the next level.”

Training Movement for Optimal Velocity, Explosiveness and Speed.

This class is designed to address the universal need for movemtn skills in the high school football athlete. Most programs weigh heavily on the weight lifting and building size compnnent of football preparation. Athletes make plays, explosive & faster athletes make big plays. Make the Speed-Power connection.
