Athlete Update: Celina Li proves GS Athltes fast in Water as well as on land!

The Foothill high swimmer has been steadily growing. Having won EBAL league events as a freshman last season she continues to improve and win. Celina also had the opportunity to compete internationally in  Russia this past winter. Celina undergoes what is termed “Dry land” training at Gamespeed.  Its a program developed just for swimming and water polo athletes. We develop stroke & kick strength or torque, core stability, joint strength and anaerobic power as it pertains to water based activities.

Her mom notified me of her latest exploits at her last two events:

Aaron,

“She did well at the short course Far Western meet over the weekend.  Swimming world magazine was at the meet and video taped all races…..  She took 2nd place for 15-16 year old girls’ high point award.  She did not even swim full and not all her best events.  She won the 200y fly, 1000y free, 200Im, 500y free. 4th place in 50 free. She had her best times on 100y back, 200 fly, 1000 free and 500 free.  Her 200y fly was the most impressive one you should check it out.  She was seeded 3rd, racing against and also beat a 6ft tall  16 year-old girl who was interviewed […]

Is Running Track Speed Training? Football Player finds out the difference.

Sean Miller Shines at LA Combine #2 Overall,  Ranked #4 in Country

An athlete had a dilemma , we had the answer:

I love it when a plan comes together. About 8 weeks ago Sean’s dad called me with a dilemma. Should Sean run track  in hopes of building his speed or do his own training? I expressed my reservations about the misnomer that running track would make you faster for football. It can in some instances but not all. There are many factors to consider. How good is the track coach? Will the athlete get the type of attention he needs? What is the risk of injury from that type of training? My answer, I felt his time would be best spent with a pointed and structured plan to develop his talents as they relate specifically to football.  Speed is not just linear its multi-directional, with starts and stops. So Sean enrolled into the GS Saturday Football Combine Prep and Workouts Class as well as a supervised mid week custom program. With this combination he has worked on speed and power as it relates to football.

The results have been no short of spectacular. Heres an email from Sean’s dad:

“Aaron,  I just […]

Soccer: Jackie Kane Signs with Univ of Pacific

Congratulations to Jackie Kane.  She has signed a full scholarship offer from University of the Pacific in Stockton, Ca. . A goalkeeper for Orinda soccer and a member of the Haitian national team she has been a member of Gamespeed for three years. She has a regular schedule of strength training, track workouts for aerobic capacity, and ballistic repeat circuits for explosive anaerobic ability. She has a shot to be the starting goalkeeper. We want to make that happen!

Here’s a brief piece from the UOP Soccer team site:

April 6, 2011

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women’s soccer team has announced two more additions to their roster for the upcoming 2011 season as midfielder Nicola Berry and goalkeeper Jacqueline Kane join the Tigers for the fall.

Jacqueline Kane is a 5-9 goalkeeper from Alamo, Calif. who currently plays with the Lamorinda United 92 which is coached by Mohamed Mohamed. With Lamorinda United 92, Kane helped the club to the 2010 Juventus Championship, the 2010 Pleasanton Rage Finals, and the 2010 Davis College Showcase Semifinals. Kane also trained with the Haitian National women’s soccer team.

Athlete Updates: Cheyenne Cordes Blasts not one but three homers!

Softball

Livermore Stampede Classic

Cheyenne Cordes of Rodriguez High. The Cal bound shortstop blasted a opposite field three run homer to win the semi fianl game. She also went 13 for 16 with 15 RBIs, 12 runs and three homers over five tournament games.  That display of power is no coincidence. This off season Cheyenne made it a point to develop her power and while at Gamespeed underwent a structured regiment to do just that blending power exercises, plyometrics and range of motion activities.

A Gamespeed athlete since the 7th grade we are very proud of this young lady and her accomplishments.

Warning Signs of Overtraining

Over training is a common problem among young athletes. We always think “more is better” and “no pain no gain”. This commonly leads to over training. The signs can be very subtle and easily over looked or misdiagnosed. It is very important that athletes be aware of over training what leads to it and how to handle it.

Symptoms and Warning Signs

  1. Frequent colds, headaches, and the swelling of lymph nodes in neck and groin. And other illness that result due to a lowered immune system.
  2. Frequent injuries, soreness, stiffness in muscles, joints and tendons that may last unusually longer than normal.
  3. Other signs include cloudy, dark or concentrated urine and pale, pasty skin, blemishes, or rashes.
  4. General feeling of flatness or low energy for extended periods of time.

Suggested Treatment

  1. Rest for a couple of days, until your body tells you it’s time to start again.
  2. Reduce training.
  3. Increase recovery times.
  4. Pay attention to nutrition and hydration.
  5. Have scheduled active rest periods. I suggest every four to six weeks where you change to lighter activities i.e. swimming, biking, or games for a few days.

Tips to avoid over-training

  1. Set realistic goals.
  2. Vary your training.
  3. Take breaks.
  4. Gets lots of rest and relaxation. […]

Monte Vista’s Cameron Keysor quietly dominates

I know its early and generally certain names get bantered about in the press about who is the hot athlete to watch this year. However there are some who fly under the radar who deserve just as much praise. One of those guys is Monte Vista pitcher Cameron Keysor. The 6′ 200lb senior is the anchor of the Mustang pitching staff. This BYU bound senior just in the early season has notched wins against the Bay areas most celebrated programs including: Amador Valley (#3 nationally), San Ramon Valley, Serra and Heritage. With a four pitch arsenal and a fastball at 90mph he is one to watch as he will be the go to guy in every major game the Mustangs will play.

His is a story of hard work, perseverance and commitment. Cameron is a 4 year student of Gamespeed and has steadily climbed up the performance charts with a strict training regiment, nutrition schedule and arm care management program. He is also a veteran of the NorCal baseball VIP program that works closely with the Gamespeed Off Season conditioning program.  He is a testament to […]

Baseball

When Monte Vista and San Ramon Valley meet its like the Hatfields and the McKoys. One thing these bitter rivals have in common is their most prominent athletes train at the same place Gamespeed.

Gamespeed versus Gamespeed, well kinda.  There were no less than 12 current and former GS athletes on the field between the two teams. The Championship game of the Gordie Classic pitted Monte Vista against San Ramon Valley. MV won 4-3 in a close game. Here’s a recap:

MV scored all their runs in top of 5th with a tie breaking game winning hit  two run home run by Tony D over Livermore field “Mini Green Monster” in left field. The rally was started by a […]
