Football: GS Athletes among “Hidden Gems” at NorCal preps College Prospect Combine

Way to go Monte Vista teammates Kevin Wexler and Ryan Neil. They came, competed and got noticed. Over 8 weeks of the Saturday Football Combine prep class paid off for these athletes. Both demonstrated the power and movement techniques used in the class to impress the scouts. Kevin went on to lead TWO of the testing events.

Norcal Preps Analyst report:

May 7th

Coming from around the region to Contra Costa College on Saturday, prospects from the 2012 through 2015 classes were on hand for the inaugural NorCalPreps.com College Prospect Combine. With a day full of comprehensive testing and high level coaching, a number of hidden gems showed well, including strong performances from Freedom High School.

Ryan Neil 6-foot-5, 280 pounds OL Monte Vista (2012): Neil was the biggest prospect on hand with the raw ability to be a lineman to watch develop this season. He has good footwork on his pass protection sets and has a good initial burst off the line. Developing as an athlete will be important this summer, but the 6-foot-5 size alone should have colleges looking his direction.

Kevin Wexler 5-foot-11, 230 pounds DE Monte Vista (2012): Undersized on the defensive line, Wexler plays with good fundamentals. He gets off […]

GS Athlete Baseball: Rylan Sandoval in minor leagues

Nice pic of Rylan. A local product out of Hayward who went to Chabot then onto Long Beach State was drafted by the Mets. In his second year he is rising fast hitting .330  last season and earning NYP Mid-Season All-Star honors.  A GS athlete for the past four years he spent his off-season training for baseball and  focusing on overall athleticism. This picture shows he made great use of that time.

Athlete Update: Darnell leading all Padres minor league hitters

James Darnell is moving closer to that day in the big leagues. A GS athlete since the eight grade he continues to return every off season to work on his movement, speed and power. He follows emailed workouts to the “T” and stays in incredible shape. Continued success and thanks for helping out at our infielder clinics. – Aaron, Gamespeed

Darnell leading all Padres minor league hitters

By Bill Center, UNION-TRIBUNE

Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 11:42 a.m.

James Darnell says not a day goes by when he doesn’t think about playing in the major leagues.

“I think about the Padres every day,” the 24-year-old third baseman said earlier this week. “You have to say to yourself ‘this is a great opportunity’ then go out and do it.

“I’m here to show people I’m a major-league player.”

Darnell has certainly been showing what he can do over the first three-plus weeks of the minor league season.

He is hitting .410 for Double-A San Antonio after swinging in the .500 neighborhood for the first two weeks. In addition to 32 hits, Darnell has drawn 19 walks for a .520 on-base percentage.

He also has 11 doubles and four homers for a .720 slugging percentage.

It is Darnell, and not […]

Football: Prier to Idaho State

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gR3pl4xPOoA]

Congratulations to Aaron Prier. A member of our off season footballworkouts conditioning program that featured a custom blend of football specific speed and power training designed just for running backs has paid dividends. Aaron was one of the areas most dynamic running backs and his numbers showed. He along with Gamespeed trained Ryan Toney of Valley Christian were the top two yards per carry backs in Contra Costa county. Look for Ryan to be signing shortly too.

CC Times Comment:

Salesian’s Aaron Prier signed a scholarship offer last week to play for Idaho State, a Football Championship Subdivision school in Pocatello, his mother, Dionne Prier, said Wednesday.

A 5-foot-10, 165-pound running back, Prier was a third-team All-East Bay selection in 2010 and finished sixth in the East Bay in rushing in the regular season with 117 carries for 1,435 yards and 14 touchdowns. As a junior, he was fourth in the East Bay with 178 carries for 1,571 yards and 21 TDs.

Athlete Update: Celina Li proves GS Athltes fast in Water as well as on land!

The Foothill high swimmer has been steadily growing. Having won EBAL league events as a freshman last season she continues to improve and win. Celina also had the opportunity to compete internationally in  Russia this past winter. Celina undergoes what is termed “Dry land” training at Gamespeed.  Its a program developed just for swimming and water polo athletes. We develop stroke & kick strength or torque, core stability, joint strength and anaerobic power as it pertains to water based activities.

Her mom notified me of her latest exploits at her last two events:

Aaron,

“She did well at the short course Far Western meet over the weekend.  Swimming world magazine was at the meet and video taped all races…..  She took 2nd place for 15-16 year old girls’ high point award.  She did not even swim full and not all her best events.  She won the 200y fly, 1000y free, 200Im, 500y free. 4th place in 50 free. She had her best times on 100y back, 200 fly, 1000 free and 500 free.  Her 200y fly was the most impressive one you should check it out.  She was seeded 3rd, racing against and also beat a 6ft tall  16 year-old girl who was interviewed […]

Is Running Track Speed Training? Football Player finds out the difference.

Sean Miller Shines at LA Combine #2 Overall,  Ranked #4 in Country

An athlete had a dilemma , we had the answer:

I love it when a plan comes together. About 8 weeks ago Sean’s dad called me with a dilemma. Should Sean run track  in hopes of building his speed or do his own training? I expressed my reservations about the misnomer that running track would make you faster for football. It can in some instances but not all. There are many factors to consider. How good is the track coach? Will the athlete get the type of attention he needs? What is the risk of injury from that type of training? My answer, I felt his time would be best spent with a pointed and structured plan to develop his talents as they relate specifically to football.  Speed is not just linear its multi-directional, with starts and stops. So Sean enrolled into the GS Saturday Football Combine Prep and Workouts Class as well as a supervised mid week custom program. With this combination he has worked on speed and power as it relates to football.

The results have been no short of spectacular. Heres an email from Sean’s dad:

“Aaron,  I just […]
