Massage Therapy Now Available at Gamespeed

As an added benefit for Gamespeed athletes, we’re happy to announce that massage therapist Angela Long will be at Gamespeed every other Sunday, beginning this week (Feb. 20).

Angela has been Aaron’s massage therapist for 15 years. Aaron regularly recommends massage therapy for his athletes.

“I have long encouraged athletes to get massage as a preventative measure and to ensure optimum performance. It is a crucial part of an athlete’s program,” Aaron says.

Angela works quite a bit with athletes.  She can help with:

  • Muscle soreness
  • Flexibility & range of motion
  • Muscle pain
  • Recovery & regeneration

Angela will be at Gamespeed this Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be taking appointments every half hour. She is charging Gamespeed athletes $30 for a half-hour appointment or $55 for a full hour. Payment is cash or check only.

Gamespeed-trained Athlete Signed by Chargers

We’re happy to report that Carl Ihenacho, who has been training with Aaron at Gamespeed since last March, has been signed this week by the San Diego Chargers.

Carl Ihenacho was an athlete at San Jose State University this past season and hurt his knee. He had surgery, but had a hard time coming back in time for the draft last year. He’s been training at Gamespeed with Aaron since last March. We got him healthy, but he just wasn’t quite up to speed in time. Carl continued to work hard, never gave up — and it paid off.

This week, he was signed by the Chargers.  He tested well and was given a clean bill of health by the staff doctors.

Aaron says, “He is one of the most humble and hardest working young men I have had the pleasure to work with.”

We wish him many years of success!

Aaron wins 60m at UW Preview Meet!

Congratulations to Gamespeed owner Aaron Thigpen. He ran at the University of Washington Preview Meet in Seattle earlier this month and won his 60m heat in 7.08 and then won the “B” Final in  7.05. Here are the Flotrack videos of his races:

While in Seattle, Aaron had an opportunity to also spent some time with a good friend, Jordan Twohig, who is the assistant baseball coach at the University of Washington. Jordan used to be the coach at Ohlone and also did hitting lessons out of Gamespeed.

Gamespeed Athlete Updates

We have exciting news to share about three Gamespeed athletes!

  • Jackie Kane, a Gamespeed client since 2008, signed a letter of intent with Texas Christian University, where she has been offered a soccer scholarship. Jackie plays goalie and chose TCU over Loyola, Fresno State and UOP.  Aaron affectionately refers to Jackie as his problem child because what he calls the “two for one” she gives him during training — but its all in fun! Congrats, Jackie!
  • Mike Ortlieb, soccer player at Deer Valley, has just been accepted to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He’s now talking to the soccer coaches and is training hard to get a chance to play!
  • Davis Rajs, a freshman at the University of Arizona, earned a walk-on spot on the track team in the fall. After a semester-long tryout, he was officially added to the roster in December. He’s training to run the 800m for the Wildcats!

Gamespeed Track Athletes Tuning Up

We’re happy to report Gamespeed track athletes are gearing up for the upcoming season by participating in pre-season racing. Six Gamespeed runners braved freezing temperatures for the first all comers meet at Deer Valley High School on Jan. 8. It was a great opportunity to start putting their training to the test on the track. Here are their results:

  • Hannah Rajs – 60m (8.91)/100m (14.69)
  • Nathan Chung – 60m (7.48)/300m (38.79)
  • Matthew Chung – 60m (8.42)/300m (43.91)
  • Alexis Earl – 400m (1:07.13)
  • Arman Thigpen – 60m (10.28)/100m (16.85)
  • Ciera Thigpen – 60m (11.43)/100m (18.71)

The following weekend, Hannah Rajs also raced in an all comers meet at UC Berkeley’s Edwards Stadium. Hannah’s 4×100 team took second place in the high school girls division with a time of  53.54. She also competed in the 60m (9.12).

Good work, athletes!

Testimonial from Gamespeed Athlete

We received such a heartfelt and gracious note from a former Gamespeed athlete recently,  that we asked her if we could share it. She said yes! So, with permission, here’s the letter Nikki Yee wrote to Aaron:

Hi Aaron!
I know it’s been such a long time that I’ve contacted you or have come in for training.  This holiday break has really given me a chance to slow down and reflect on my life thus far and what better way to do that than by getting back in contact with some of my past mentors.

The last time I saw you, I was busy training for my last season with Dartmouth softball.  As a team, we fell a little short of our goals, but individually, I was lucky enough to secure the lead-off position (I had so diligently been working for for 3 years) for the whole season.  More importantly, I am most proud of my preparation not only for my senior season, but for all the seasons leading up to it.

Your coaching was essential to this preparation and allowed me to reach all my goals as a student-athlete.  I cannot thank you enough.  Your program has taught me that dedication means going beyond doing the […]

Gamespeed Partners with Clubsport Pleasanton

We are pleased to announce a new partnership with Clubsport Pleasanton that will give Gamespeed clients a preferred membership rate at Clubsport. Gamespeed owner Aaron Thigpen wanted to help athletes who need a place to workout in between their Gamespeed sessions and to do the homework he assigns.

Working out at Clubsport is a fitness complement to the performance training done at Gamespeed — not a replacement! Aaron is familiar with the equipment at Clubsport and can tailor an athlete’s homework to the weights and machines available at Clubsport. For more information, contact Aaron.
