Heavyweight Con Sheehan has made a winning start to his career in professional boxing, beating American Jonathan Rice in Los Angeles.

The Clonmel fighter won the four-round match on a unanimous decision at Club Nokia against Rice, who had won both his two previous bouts by knockout.

The 26-year-old Sheehan, now trained by Virgil Hunter, is a six-time Irish amateur champion.

Sheehan tweeted: “Good steady win tonight against a monster and good fighter, nice to get the ball rolling, thanks for support.”
