Well its back to school time. Just wanted to say good bye to some of the collegiate athletes that trained this summer. Looking forward to hearing good things. If the past year is any indication of whats to come (see our “College Ready” article) there will be lots to read about. Every summer I look forward to working with these athletes. To see them grow and mature as athletes and individuals is a great pleasure. Whether they attend big or small schools these athletes are competing, getting an education and exemplify the student athlete. Thank you for being an inspiration and great role models for my younger athletes.
Val Margerum (Soccer) 2nd year: Just one year from knee surgery Val is back with a vengeance. She put in a full off season cinditioning effort and is headed to Corvalis ready to go. She wrote:
“…preparing for the upcoming season by playing in a summer league and working out at Gamespeed twice a week, it’s baffling that only a year ago I could barely sprint at all. It was a long, turbulant road to recovery, and it demands an incredible amount of work and determination, but with the support and encouragement of many people, I made it.” Thanks Aaron.
Adam Nikassarian (Track): A decathlete has worked on his block starts, acceleration and explosiveness to help improve his speed events. Cant wait to see his sprint times this year.
Shannon Stabler (Soccer) 1st year: Going into her freshman season Shannon wanted to be ready for the fitness testing required by all athletes. She was happy to report just last week :
“Hi Aaron, Just wanted to let you know how my tests at Cal Poly went. They were actually “assessments” and not “tests” so it was just how well you could do. I passed all 10 120’s and then got 9 out of 10 on the 25-yard shuttles. I was really glad with that though because we did them after 4 days of double days. Thank you so much for your help and preparing me for the tests!”
Mike Ortlieb (Soccer) 1st year: After playing his first year for the school club team he has gotten an invitation to tryout for the collegiate squad. Mike has been on a regiment of speed and movement training this summer designed to make him the player the coaches want to see. He came in after a full day of work and got to business.
Trevor Holmgren (Track) 2nd year: As a freshman Trevor was named Honorable Mention All-Centennial Conference (800m). He’s back to improve on his freshman season by strength training. He too comes in after a day at an Engineering internship, ready to go. That’s dedication!
Amanda Forshay (Basketball) finished her first summer at GS. Last season she was ranked no.2 on her team in points per game and rebounds and is looking to improve on that performance. Her program focused on better speed up and down the court and improving her Hops!
When asked how things were going she stated:
“its going well! i dont have a whole lot of free time now a days bc im doing orientation but im doing what I can to keep up what i built while i was home! definitely feel better than i did at this point last year!”
Dominic Revelez (Football) is entering his second season as an outside Linebacker for the Bearcats. Studying sports medicine he was a great help working as an assistant at Gamespeed directing some of the youth athletes. Dominic supplemented his school’s off season program with speed and power routines at Gamespeed.
Chance Moses (Track/ 400m) is getting up to speed by starting his off season training with a full blown program. His program encompasses running technique, strength and conditioning. He spends time on the track, gym, and in the pool. All in preparation for a competitive track season.
Cameron Moses (Basketball/Guard) will be starting his first season as a collegiate. He wants to come in with an improved first step and better jumping ability. To do this he is increasing his strength and working on a specialized jump program for the demands of basketball.
Daniel Supple (Pitcher): Velocity improvement is the key and having a program dedicated to doing that in a safe way is what Daniel has been working on. Throw hard , throw safe a must to be ready for the next level. Its not just exercising but body management that allows you to build velocity and keep it!
James Carter (Pitcher): He got an early start on his Off Season Pitchers Conditioning program. He understands a sold athletic foundation is where velocity originates. We were able to work on his balance, coordination and overall conditioning, all crucial to generating and transferring the right force to throw hard.
Graham Pimm (Baseball): When you’re the new guy coming in you have to earn your spot. That’s exactly what Graham plans to do when he shows up to the Panther’s campus. To make an impact he embarked on that difficult task of building size and speed this summer. Its a balancing act that takes proper planning and timing. His program encompassed weight training , diet and speed work. Great job this summer!
