Rays’ Chih-Wei Hu: Added to 40-man roster

Big congrats goes out to Gamespeeds Robin Hu (Chih-Wei Hu). He came to Gamespeed in 2013 with one goal, to make a major league roster and play professionally.  He is one step closer now. The Taiwanese native has undergone Gamespeed’s highest level of training and management program conducted by Aaron Thigpen and coach Tony Laio. The program focuses on developing major league talent under stringent guidelines physically, mentally, technically, and tactically.  The results have been the Ray’s organizations overall leader in ERA for the 2016 season.  He hits 98mph, sits at 94mph and has a “PalmBall”  that mystifies batters. He’ll be back at Gamespeed this December to continue his journey.  Cant wait to get started.

Rays’ Chih-Wei Hu: Added to 40-man roster

by RotoWire Staff Nov 19, 2016 •

Hu was added to the Rays’ 40-man roster Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The right-hander turned in a fine season in 2016, posting a 2.59 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 107:36 K:BB in 24 starts for Double-A Montgomery, showing enough to warrant protection from the Rule 5 draft. Hu may not have the upside of some of the other arms in the organization, but he has a chance to contribute late […]

Rays No. 13 prospect hurls seven scoreless frames, leads level in ERA

In 33 1/3 innings for Montgomery this season, Chih-Wei Hu has fanned 34 and walked eight. (Brian McLeod/MiLB.com)

Courtesy Milb.com- Chih-Wei Hu’s lone start at Triple-A this season didn’t go too well, but that hasn’t deterred the Rays’ No. 13 prospect from dominating Double-A competition.

“If anything, I think it might’ve helped him,” Montgomery manager Brady Williams said. “He knew he was going up there only making one start and coming back. He came back and pitched the same way he pitched when he left.”

Hu turned in another sterling outing for the Biscuits on Saturday in their 5-0 shutout of Jacksonville at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. He allowed […]

Super heavyweight Marlo Moore (Hayward, Calif.) wasn’t one of the favorites entering the 2016 Olympic Trials for Men’s Boxing but he proved he belonged with four victories in Reno. A product of renowned trainer Virgil Hunter’s gym, Moore entered Saturday night as the winners bracket champion. He took on challengers bracket champion Brandon Lynch (Albany, N.Y.) in the final bout of the evening with his teammate Andre Ward looking on from ringside. He completed his improbable run to an Olympic Trials title with a 3-0 victory over Lynch. “I’m feeling good, it just hasn’t sunk in. We put the last win in the back and moved on and here we are, on our way to Rio,” Moore said. “It’s an amazing feeling, words can’t describe it.”

Stephenson back at Gamespeed, 40 man roster in his sights for 2016.

Gamespeed product Robert Stephenson is back again for his off season pitchers conditioning program at GS. In his seventh year of GS training with Aaron Thigpen he is closer than ever in his goal to reach the big leagues. He was very close this year but the organization wanted to see have more innings. He will be ready.

Latest story on Robert:

Redsblog:

C. Trent Rosecrans, crosecrans@enquirer.com

No decision has been made — Reds manager Bryan Price wanted to make that clear — but connect the dots, and it sure seems the Reds, or Price at least, want top prospect Robert Stephenson joining the team when rosters expand in September.

Stephenson was scheduled to return from the disabled list at Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. He’s been on the DL since suffering cramps in his throwing wrist on Aug. 12.

The right-hander is not currently on the 40-man roster, but will have to be added this offseason anyway.

“Those are conversations I’ll have with (general manager) Walt (Jocketty) when we finalize the roster of guys that are coming up,” Price said. “I […]

Super heavyweights Glanton, Moore going for gold

Published: June 27, 2015

The USA men’s boxing teams haven’t won gold in more than a decade and haven’t taken home a medal since 2008.

Brandon Glanton and Marlo Moore are both dreaming of gold.

Glanton and Moore each won super heavyweight semifinals (over 201 pounds) on Friday to qualify for the U.S. Olympic boxing trials.

Deontay Wilder was the last American male to win an Olympic medal and the same boxer brought a heavyweight title back to American shores.

Wilder won bronze in the Olympics in 2008 and defeated Bermane Stiverne in January to claim the WBC belt, the first heavyweight title for an American since […]

Andre Ward victorious over Paul Smith

Andre got it doe agian. After a 19 month lay off he came back to the ring to demolish another opponent. With Smiths crew throwing in the towel in the ninth round. As with his previous four fights he did conditioning training with coach Aaron Thigpen of Gamespeed. Here are a few personal pics I took at ring side.

[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”1″ gal_title=”Ward vs Smith”]

Welcome back, Andre “S.O.G” Ward (28-0, 15 KO). After a 19-month layoff, the WBA super middleweight champion returned to the ring with a dominant ninth-round TKO over Paul Smith (35-6) on Saturday night in Oakland, California. It wasn’t a title defense, but Ward looked like a champion against a clearly inferior opponent.

…Ward pounded on Smith with combinations from multiple angles. Smith’s face broke up under Ward’s shots, and his corner mercifully threw in the towel to save their fighter from unnecessary punishment.

….S.O.G had quite the cheering section. TheScore NBA has Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors carrying one of Ward’s belts in the ring:

…..Smith looked like a handpicked opponent, but he gave a valiant effort to make the fight with Ward semi-competitive. He landed a […]

Andre Ward back at Gamespeed before re-entering ring June 20th at Oracle Arena

andre ward workout
Andre gets ready at Gamespeed with the push sled. Andre supplements his boxing training with speed and power work with Aaron Thigpen at Gamespeed.

Andre Ward, the super middleweight champion from Oakland who is returning to the ring after a year and a half layoff, will fight England’s Paul Smith on June 20, promoter Roc Nation Sports has announced.

The fight at Oracle Arena will be televised by BET and will start at 7 p.m., according to ESPN.

Ward is 27-0 with 14 knockouts, but the 31-year-old boxer has not been in the ring since beating Edwin Rodriguez in a November 2013 title defense in Ontario. Ward’s absence from the ring was partly due to a shoulder injury, but it was mostly because of a lengthy battle over his promotional contract with late promoter Dan Goossen, who died in September.

Smith, 35, has a 35-5 record with 20 knockouts. He is a former British champion who has lost his last two fights to Germany’s Arthur Abraham, both on Abraham’s home turf. According to ESPN, the first fight was close, the second was one-sided.
Ward […]
