At Gamespeed we have an off season track and field conditioning program. Some take advantage of it most don’t, but those who do are always in the hunt when it matters, and that’s during championship season. Most not only won their events or placed high but also posted some of the areas top times in their events. All will be moving on to NCS with the hopes of going to the State meet. I like their chances.

Below are those who made the sacrifice early and they reaped the rewards!!!

Performances in red denote Top 10 NCS ranking mark. In green denote Top 15.

The Dublin Varsity boys team won its second consecutive conference championship. A first in the school history.  The Dublin sprinters dominated on both the men’s and women’s sides.

On the women’s side:

Dublin’s Noria Mitchell achieved the rare feat of winning a league championship four years in a row. Mitchell, who’ll play soccer at Saint Mary’s College, won the girls 100 by nearly a second with a time of 12.26. That time is leading the Tri-Valley area. She also won the 200 for the third straight year (25.23). It has been a pleasure working with Noria these past four years she is a joy to work with and is a coaches dream. There will be big shoes to fill once this season ends in the girls sprints at Dublin.

Congrats go out to Gamespeed trained Hadley Swanson (Campo) who won three individual girls events. Hadley a GS athlete for over five years won the varsity girls 400m (58.97), Long Jump  (17’4″), High Jump (5’0″) and was runner up in the 200m.

On the boys side:

Dublin continued its dominance over the league in the sprints with its one-two punch from last year of Artis Jones and Anthony Egbujor. These two were last years first and second place finishers in the 100 and 200m. As seniors they went out with a bang. Artis won the 100m in one of the tri-valleys leading times in 11.00 seconds with Anthony just a hair behind at 11.01.  In the 200m the two traded places with Anthony winning in 22.38 ahead of Artis who ran 22.57. Again both among the areas leader lists.

The two also teamed up with Jeff Leung and Adeola Olayami to win the 400m relay.  Adeola also ran well in the 400m running 51.89 for 4th.

EBAL

Mikeala Gwynn (SRV)  Fro-Soph  Meet 1st 400m 62.34, 200m 28.72 6th.

David Griffin (SRV)  3rd 50.64. Coming out of the shadows of his older siblings and overcoming injuries he is starting to emerge and will be one of the leagues if not areas top 400m runners in the next two years.

Trevor Holmgren (SRV) 1st 800m 1.54.10. In one year this young man has dropped 8 seconds off his time to be one of the areas top runners at 800m. The past two years he has worked to transform his body and develop the strength that has taken him to the top. No where near being topped out he is going to have a phenomenal post season and will be scary good once he gets to college.

Conor  Cook (Monte Vista) Long Jump   21’5″  6th.

Kat Hupke (Cal) 100m 2nd 12.45, 200m 4th 25.67. She has overcome knee surgery to be league runner up and be in the mix for a possible state bid. Well done Kat.

Annie Geasa (Foothill) 9th 3200m 12.13.23,   1600m 10th, 5.32.06. Concluding a well run junior season with seasonal and personal bests she is a solid worker who will see more gains next season as well.

HAAL

Senior and Boston University bound Karra Gardin repeated as league champ in the 400m with a time of 59.44 and was 5th in the 200m at 27.54.  Karra has been the picture of dedication for the past four years with Gamespeed. She works incredibly hard and is one of the most dedicated and even tempered athletes Ive ever met. Her best running is yet to come. Watch out for her in college. But for now onto NCS!!

MVAL

I have two recent rising young stars from Logan High. Morgan Williams (10) and Mariah Turner (11).  Morgan won the women’s varsity Long Jump. They turned in solid performances and will be among the areas leaders in their events come next season.

Morgan Williams (Logan) Soph   Varsity 100m 13.69 8th,   Triple Jump 6th 33’08”,  Long Jump 1st 16’02“.

Mariah Turner (Logan) Junior  5th Triple Jump 34’07“,  5th Long Jump 15’08”.

Matt Alexander (American) 800m 2nd     2.02.22.  Looks like Matt did’nt have his best race well off his PR of 1.57.00 but his effort was good enough for second place and score valuable points for his team.
